Wantage & Grove Station Supporters Group

Wantage & Grove Station Supporters Group is campaigning for the reopening of Grove Station on the Wantage Road, Oxfordshire.

The train station was sadly closed in December 1964 after serving the community for 118 years.

Since its closure there have been a number of calls to reopen the train station at Grove, and most recently Oxfordshire County Council have funded a Strategic Outline Case study for the potential reopening of the station.

Great Western Railways are likely to serve the station when it reopens with trains serving Bristol, Bath Spa, Chippenham, Swindon, Grove* and Oxford.

The aim is to have the station reopened by 2031 to 2037 which will serve a serve a community in excess of 40,000 people.

Footfall numbers for the station were estimated to be around 1 million passengers per year.

Grove station has the reopening support of Harwell Campus, Grove Business Park and Williams Racing and Technology Campus.

In addition to this Wantage & Grove Station Supporters Group has in excess of 1,700 supporters on Facebook and X with the majority on Facebook.

Despite the above campaign this has mostly been at cost to myself personally.

I originally funded the website and designed the website myself at a cost of just under £80 per year.

I have received support from Railfuture Thames Valley to cover the cost of the website campaign, but this support from them could be reduced or cut completely.

Railfuture have been and hopefully continue to be supporters of Grove Station, but to increase our presence and marketing we need sponsors at all budgets however financially large or small.

The website hosting and domain name is costing £80 per year, marketing materials such as roller banners were sponsored by Railfuture Thames Valley.

Business cards, leaflets and promotional prizes at events were at cost to myself personally.

To continue for the foreseeable future until Grove Parkway Station reopens, I am looking for a sponsor or sponsors to contribute towards the campaign and costs.

Thanks for reading and let’s remain focused on reopening Grove Parkway Station and others across the UK.
