Tri Service Charity Rally
My name is James
I left home to join the Air Force, filled with big dreams. During basic training, my world changed—my wife suffered a stroke a day after her 18th birthday, leaving her with paralysis on one side. The next years were tough, filled with pain, confusion, and a fight for recovery.
The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund supported us through four difficult years not only starting my career but helping me care for my wife. Realizing my role as her caregiver became my new mission, I made the heartbreaking decision to leave the military to be by her side.
Transitioning to civilian life was challenging. The RAFBF guided us through those times, helping us adapt. Miraculously, after seven years, surgery, and perseverance, my wife nearly fully recovered. Her recovery reignited my passion, and three years ago, I rejoined the army as a reservist, driving tank transporters. Seeing me happy again brought her joy too.
Life still tested us. After seven years fighting for housing support, rejection and stress overwhelmed me. Desperate, I reached out to the British Legion again—they supported us through this crisis, we faced potential separation and emergency accommodation, but thanks to their help legal help from the ABF, we found a new home. The RAF Benevolent Fund supported our children, ensuring stability when we needed it most.
Now, I want to give back. I’m organizing a charity car rally across the UK over three days, visiting seven military locations and walking five miles at each. This event aims to raise awareness and funds for the Army Benevolent Fund, Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, and Royal Navy Benevolent Trust—charities that support our service members and veterans.
