Southsea Community Cinema and Art Centre
Southsea Community Cinema and Arts Centre is home for Portsmouth Film Society, a unique, not for profit company based in Portsmouth. Our home and programming are designed to adapt to changes in the way people experience art, films, theatre, music and entertainment in the future.
We are looking for businesses in the local Portsmouth-Southsea area to sponsor our Sunset Outdoor Cinema, which spans 10 events from mid June to September. Offering a series of open-air screenings at iconic locations around Southsea and Eastney. This year’s programme is curated to appeal to families and film enthusiasts, featuring sing-alongs, animated films, blockbusters, and classic cinema experiences in stunning outdoor settings.
Examples of last year’s venues include Cumberland House Natural History Museum Garden, Fort Purbrook, Hambledon Vineyard, Southsea Skatepark and Southsea Common (for the Drive-in Movies).
Our mission statement as an organization is by using English and international film as a medium we support the development of local culture, community and education to encourage both film and diversity appreciation and be an art hub for our city. Portsmouth Film Society encourages interest in film as a medium for public education, information, and entertainment by means of exhibiting films of artistic, cultural or informative character.
We promote the study and appreciation of film by such means as presentations, lectures, discussions and exhibitions. With over 12 years of experience, we strive to celebrate diversity in the community, unite different cultures and break down social barriers by showing culturally sensitive and interesting films and encouraging community participation. Our committee and volunteer group comprises adults and students of ten nationalities from three continents. We’ve worked with a broad range of organisations and topical experts to provide film education programmes to vulnerable groups including youth groups, substance abuse groups and immigrants. We bring people together to share art and experiences.
Target Audience
The demographic for our Sunset Outdoor Cinema are largely Southsea and Portsmouth residence, families and tourists.

Friday July 4th | Portsmouth Cricket Club | Wicked |- A magical musical evening where families and fans come together. Encouraging a young audience.
Friday July 11th | Portsmouth Cricket Club | Grease | (Sing-along)
Saturday July 19th | Cumberland Museum, Butterfly Garden | Big Lebowski | (with a day party)
Saturday July 26th | Eastney Beach | Jaws | – An immersive screening of Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller, with the sound of waves adding to the suspense. Audience: Classic film lovers, thriller enthusiasts
Saturday Aug 2nd | Canoe Lake | (Surprise film + Sing along)
