Great British Medical Football Team Lionesses
I’m writing on behalf of the Great British Medical Football Team Lionesses, a passionate and committed group of UK-based female doctors with a shared love of the beautiful game. We’re proud to announce that we will be representing the UK at the 2026 World Medical Football Championships (WMFC) in Costa Rica – a prestigious international tournament that unites medical professionals from all over the globe to promote health, wellbeing, and international collaboration through sport.
Target Audience
The WMFC simultaneously runs multiple competitions for qualified doctors across the full spectrum of ages and career stages. The tournament held this year hosted 24 teams in the men’s >25 cup, 20 teams in the men’s >45 cup, 10 teams in the men’s >60 cup and 14 teams in the women’s all-age cup. Over a thousand doctors, along with their support teams of physiotherapists, nutritionists, and coaching staff attended this year’s event and historically the number of attendees has grown year on year. I’m sure you can appreciate the brand exposure and advertising opportunities this presents to a vast international audience of high-end consumers and influencers (who happen to love football), from newly qualified to consultant-level doctors.

The annual WMFC event attracts over a thousand doctors — both male and female — from across the world, creating a powerful platform for cross-border health conversations, physician wellbeing, and advocacy for physical activity in the medical community. We are a recently established team and were fortunate to compete along with 67 other medical football teams in the 2025 WMFC where we finished 6th place in the Women’s Cup – a historic result for the GBMFT Lionesses. For many of us, it’s also a rare chance to compete internationally, represent our profession, and promote female football as well as build connections extending beyond the pitch.
