Fight Forward

Fight Forward CIC is a not for profit set up by former Gold medalist and GB boxer Lesley Sackey.

We exist because we believe every woman deserves to feel safe, powerful, and in control of her own life. And we’re here to help make that happen.

Our mission is to help 100,000 survivors of domestic abuse use boxing as a tool to Fight Forward.

What We Do

Fight Forward is all about helping women reconnect with their strength, both mentally and physically. We run transformational boxing and therapy programmes designed to support survivors of abuse, and women who want to move from a place of survive to thrive.

The FightBack Programme – A 10-week, high-energy boxing programme where women train like real fighters, push their limits, and, win or lose, step into the ring for the first time, proving to themselves that they are stronger than their past, and are able to thrive in their future.

The FightBack Restore Programme – A powerful 8-week journey that combines boxing with trauma-informed therapy. This is about healing the mind as well as the body, giving women the tools to process their experiences, regain confidence, and move forward with purpose.

Building Community & The Power of storytelling – “You cannot be what you cannot see” Edwina Dunn (Founder of The Female Lead) – Through our growing community we show that story telling matters and allows others to see they are not alone.
We’re here to start conversations, challenge stigma and dispel the myths around survivors.

Why Boxing?

Because boxing teaches you how to take up space. It teaches you how to stand tall, move with confidence, and own your power. For many women who have been through abuse, trauma can leave them feeling disconnected from their own bodies. Boxing helps rebuild that connection. It’s about the power of taking back control.

As our founder, Lesley Sackey, explains:

“Scientific research shows that intense physical movement can shift trauma. Calcified memories, experiences, and energy live in the body, and by doing something impactful or vigorous, it literally shifts those emotions.”

Boxing is more than just a workout, it’s a release. It’s a way to let go of what’s been weighing you down and make space for strength, confidence, and healing.

Here is a short for Channel 4 that gives an insight into the Fight Back Programme (which starts again in May with the fight night in July this year):

We are also filming a documentary that follows the journey of our women participating in the Fight Back Programme..

Lesley was on BBC Women’s hour a couple of weeks ago with one of our previous programme participants you can watch a clip here:

We are currently organising our celebrity ambassadors to add to the website too.

Domestic abuse is not just a personal issue, it’s a societal crisis. 1.7 million women experience domestic violence every year and 1 in 4 women will face abuse in their lifetime. These numbers are not just statistics, they represent real lives, real struggles, and real women who need support.

At Fight Forward, we are committed to empowering women to reclaim their strength, both physically and mentally through our life-changing programmes. But we cannot do this alone.

Target Audience

Our Fight Back Programme and sponsorship events resonate with a wide audience, because domestic abuse isn’t something that only affects survivors—it touches the lives of their families, friends, colleagues, and entire communities. With 1 in 4 women experiencing domestic abuse in their lifetime, the ripple effect is vast, and so is the need for awareness, support, and real change.

Our audience includes women aged from late teens–65 their partners, children, loved ones, and a growing number of allies and advocates who want to be part of the solution. From small business owners and community leaders to socially conscious brands, our supporters come from all walks of life, but they all share a common value: they want to make a difference.

We’re proud to also be supported by organisations working in the domestic violence space, such as Women’s Trust, and we work collaboratively to build safe, empowering spaces for survivors to heal and grow. Our events and campaigns don’t just raise funds, they raise voices, awareness, and momentum for a cause that affects far more people than statistics alone ever show.
