Animal Behaviour and Training Council

We are a charity registered in England, Wales and Scotland. The ABTC’s charitable aims are to promote humane practice in the training and behaviour therapy of animals and to lobby for improvements in animal welfare related to these activities

Target Audience

The regulation of animal trainers and behaviourists will potentially be of interest to everybody who has responsibility for animals in the UK. There are an estimated 36 million pets in 17.2 million homes in the UK plus domestic stock animals and wild animal collections. Pet guardianship crosses the complete spectrum of demographic groups, from the young to the elderly and the poor to the wealthy. It is often said that we are a nation of animal lovers.

Key Dates and Timings

As 2025 progresses the process of UKAS accreditation will reach its final stage. There is no fixed timetable but preparations and close liaison with UKAS has been underway since early last year and the application is well developed and gearing up for a successful completion later this year.

Specific Opportunity Details

We are offering the opportunity to sponsor ABTC as we approach the culmination of several years work towards achieving UKAS accreditation. This is a key stage in the eventual regulation of animal trainers and behaviourists aimed at bringing an end to the widespread bad practices delivered by poorly trained individuals at the cost of the welfare of the nations pets. UKAS accreditation was strongly advised by the UK Westminster government

Features and Benefits

ABTC is already a registered charity in England, Wales and Scotland and is known for its animal welfare ethos. Being formally associated with this movement will be mutually beneficial from an advertising perspective as it will emphasise this essential element of any business that provides for the needs of our animals and those responsible for them. It will enhance the reach of any customer base that values the animal welfare message.

Other Partners

Many organisations that have direct interests in improving animal welfare through regulating activities associated with animal training and behaviour modification are already members of ABTC. The list includes the veterinary profession, major animal welfare charities and education providers

Investment

We are aiming to raise a total of £20,000 from a range of sources from individuals and SMEs as well as the bigger high profile businesses associated with the pet and animal industry.

These funds will enable greater promotional support and contribute towards financing the major undertaking to achieve UKAS accreditation of our standards and processes. This leading to eventual regulation of the animal training and behaviour modification sector.
