Ducati MotoGP Team Make Lenovo As Title Sponsor
Ducati MotoGP three-year sponsorship deal introduces technology company Lenovo to take over naming rights from Mission Winnow.
- Ducati Moto GP motorcycling outfit to be known as Ducati Lenovo Team from 2021 season
- Pair vows to collaborate on implementing virtual desktop infrastructure for Ducati engineers working remotely
The Ducati MotoGP outfit has expanded its partnership with technology company Lenovo to include the title sponsorship of the team.
The deal means the motorcycling outfit will be known as the Ducati Lenovo Team for the next three seasons, building on a previous lower-tier technology partnership.
China-headquartered Lenovo takes over the naming rights to the team from tobacco company Philip Morris International, which used the partnership to promote its Mission Winnow campaign.
Since agreeing a technology partnership in 2018, Lenovo has helped Ducati engineers and designers to adopt algorithms and racing bike technology for both race and road bikes.
The two parties are now carrying out research and development plans to implement a virtual desktop infrastructure for Ducati engineers currently working remotely. The pair also say they are exploring augment and virtual reality technologies for motorbike mechanics in the future.
Luca Rossi, senior vice president of Lenovo, said: “Through Lenovo’s mission to enable intelligent transformation, we look forward to taking our technology integration to new heights and empowering Ducati’s racing team to extend MotoGP’s significance for years to come.”
The deal comes less than a month after Ducati committed to racing in MotoGP for another five years until 2026. The 2021 season gets underway in Qatar on 28th March.
