BETFRED EXTENDS PDC WORLD MATCHPLAY SPONSORSHIP UNTIL 2030

The relationship between betting and darts has grown even closer, as Betfred has confirmed it will continue its long-running partnership with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), remaining as the title sponsor of the prestigious World Matchplay tournament until at least 2030.

The agreement secures another five years of sponsorship for the UK bookmaker, covering both its retail and online operations.

Betfred founder Fred Done said:

“The Betfred World Matchplay is always one of the highlights of the sporting calendar – there’s nothing like the seaside atmosphere and the standard of darts just keeps getting better. We’re thrilled to be extending our partnership with the PDC for another five years, especially at such an exciting time for the sport. The quality of the competition has never been stronger, and we believe these tournaments will only continue to grow.”

Alongside the main event, Betfred will also remain title sponsor of the Women’s World Matchplay for the same period.

The renewal was announced as the 2025 World Matchplay got underway last weekend at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. As part of the extended partnership, prize money will increase significantly – the total fund will rise to £1 million in 2026, with next year’s winner set to pocket £225,000. The women’s competition will also benefit from a boost, with a £40,000 prize fund announced for 2026.

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter commented:

“Betfred has become synonymous with the World Matchplay since taking over as title sponsor in 2019. It’s fantastic to have their support secured for another five years. Their backing of the Women’s World Matchplay further underlines their commitment to darts, and we’re excited to see prize money grow for both events from 2026. This year’s tournament sold out faster than ever following the success of 2024, and we’re looking forward to another brilliant week in Blackpool with Betfred.”

Darts Sponsorship Growing

Darts has enjoyed rapid growth in recent years, fuelled by rising social media engagement and a new wave of young talent. Several bookmakers have moved to establish a strong presence in the sport.

Paddy Power secured title sponsorship of the World Championship last year as part of a multi-year deal, making a major splash with its own marketing campaign and activations. BetMGM has also strengthened its involvement, sponsoring the 17-week Premier League Darts competition.

Betfred’s Wider Sporting Presence

This latest extension further cements Betfred’s footprint across British sport. The bookmaker has long been active in rugby league, serving as title sponsor of the top division since 2017 and extending its agreement until 2026.

The company has also reinforced its connection with horse racing, renewing its partnership with The Jockey Club to sponsor The Derby Festival at Epsom Downs until 2026.

With its roots in Salford and headquarters in Warrington, Betfred’s focus on sponsoring popular working-class sports such as rugby league and darts ensures it remains closely aligned with its northern heritage.
