Wells Jazz and Blues Festival

The Wells Jazz & Blues Festival is a three-day music not for profit event that will bring a wealth of jazz and blues culture and music to a diverse audience. Expanding and shaping the cultural life of the city, it will introduce a new space for established and emerging grassroots jazz and blues artists, supporting the development of talent by ensuring a significant proportion of the event is ring fenced for emerging artists.

Through this, the festival will support new networking and mentoring opportunities for young musicians at the early stages of their careers as well as a platform for their talent to be heard by a diverse audience. Work experience opportunities will also be available for young music producers to support skill development and gain experience that directly supports a career in music production.

Target Audience

A multi-generational event providing free at the point of entry access to live jazz and blues music for all.

Key Dates and Timings

September 26-28 2025

Specific Opportunity Details

Drawing from the success of local festivals with a 10,000+ visitor draw to the city, the festival will have a strong commitment to inclusion making it stand out from other events, such as the nearby Glastonbury Festival, by:
– being accessible to all audiences regardless of social mobility status by being free at the point of entry so that financial circumstance does not dictate attendance;
– being focused in city centre venues therefore geographically accessible;
– being as much a career development platform for established talent as well as young and emerging grassroots music performance and production talent.

The festival is modelled on the long established Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues Festival. The festival website will provide space for information on each venue and artist as well as a programme for the weekend. It will also provide local information on accommodation. Social media sites for the festival on Facebook, Instagram and X are generating national and international interest.

Each artist, once confirmed, will be showcased on the festival website and social media marketing information shared for them to use on their digital platforms. Articles and interviews with local and regional radio stations and in news publications will be utilised to widen the reach further for those who do not engage with information digitally. Local tourist information networks will be drawn on to maximise exposure with jazz collectives and blues networks advertising the festival.
