Derrick ‘DelBoy’ Osaze is 26 years old, was born and raised in London but now trains and resides in Nottingham, where he obtained a BA(Hons) Business Management and MRes Sport Psychology degree.
As an amateur he won two national titles and one East Midlands title. Osaze narrowly missed out on becoming a full member of the England squad due to injury and was also in contention to represent Nigeria and attempt to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after receiving a call up from the national head coach. This clearly underlined his potential.
Osaze is married and a devout Christian and was ordained as a Minister in March 2018 at God’s Vineyard Church, Nottingham. This is where the nickname ‘The Punching Preacher’ was born from. Osaze is extremely passionate about the Youth and mentors many young people. He is an ambassador and regularly provides advice and delivers motivational speeches to young people and engages in various work in the community.
Osaze cruised to victory in Ultimate Boxxer III – The Middleweights at The O2 in London in May 2019. He beat three boxers in one night to be crowned champion, flooring two out of the three boxers he faced in the process, with a combined record of 34-2, which included two former southern-area title holders. Screened live on BT Sport, Osaze was backed by a huge following and did not disappoint in the highlight of his career so far.
Now 10-0 and the latest Ultimate Boxxer champion, the future will be bright for ‘The Punching Preacher’ who’s profile is growing rapidly. Osaze trains 2-3 times a day, 6 days a week. His goal as a professional boxer is to become a multiple world champion and ultimately use his success as a platform to help more young people and athletes like himself achieve their dreams.
