Sponsorship available for Carrying David Stage Play at the prestigious Newcastle Theatre Royal – 20th to 21st June 2025

Carrying David is a stage play taken from the amazing true story of the first world champion boxer from the North-East of England and the his relationship with his adopted brother David with whom he forms an unbreakable bond. The play is about triumph over adversity as David who because of a terminal illness battles just to live, inspires his brother Glenn to fight back from a series of defeats and drag himself off the floor for a shot at world title glory in a local leisure centre a few yards from his front door. Something that almost certainly would not happen today.

Through the play we meet boxing legends such as Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson and cap it all off with a spectacular set piece of theatre and recreate the world title fight. It is full of warmth, humour and drama.

The play will be shown at the most prestigious theatre in the North-East – Newcastle Theatre Royal (capacity 1,247) for three shows of the weekend 20th and 21st June 2025. There will be lots of promotion and publicity leading up to the shows and afterwards as well with events planned as part of the project. Potential sponsors will be part of all of this with a reach of many thousands. The shows in June will also are also an opportunity for national producers to come and see the show with the potential to take it around the UK and beyond. If you sponsor us at this stage i guarantee I will keep your brand name on the publicity for this as well.

There is also a film being made of David so there will be cross promotion.

Target Audience

Having done the show previously, taking it to London and Belfast, age wise we go from teenagers up to pensioners. In Northern Ireland particularly we had boxing clubs attend with kids from 12 to 16 most of whom had never been to the theatre. They were blown away. One group even made their own video about it. We will have sports fans, regular theatre goers and Theatre Royal regulars who spend a lot of time and money there.

Key Dates and Timings

May 2025 - Events planned throughout the month.
June 20th and 21st - Three shows at Newcastle Theatre Royal
July and August - Workshops
September - Great North Run

Specific Opportunity Details

Leading up to the play there will be many events with press and publicity involved. As well as being an actor and co-producer of the play, I am a newly qualified personal trainer and am taking boxing training qualifications through boxercise for group work and one to one.

I am in contact with organisations throughout the North-East to put on a series of workshops on the benefits of sport and the arts on mental health. One of the groups I will be working with is specifically a boxing for mental health group.

This will include sessions before the show, participants coming to see the show and then sessions after where they create their own work. Our sponsor/s will have the opportunity to be at these events, talk to the media and have their branding at what will be pretty inspirational work.

After this and to keep the project going, I plan to raise money for these charities by running the Great North Run. This will mean sponsors will have the chance to still be included in the story..

Through my co-producers Wisecrack Productions we have a fan base of thousands. They are the writers of this play and have produced several over the past decade and I have worked for them previously and am about to start rehearsals on another play with them in a few weeks.

Carrying David will be promoted through this play and another of Wisecrack’s productions which is out early next year. With the film being made the numbers have a chance to greatly increase

Features and Benefits

For the play itself, placement in all promotion on social media, website and programmes, we use a screen and in the pre-show and after as well we will have the sponsor onscreen.

In all of the events and outreach work we will have our sponsors and branding on show. For my training for the Great North Run I will have promote my sponsor during training and I will also do this in my training for the role.

Additionally if I receive sponsorship before the end of the year I will promote as I get in shape for another role I am playing in February through to end of April so there is a chance that the sponsorship will span over eight months.

Other Partners

At this stage there are no other brands. I have approached a couple of other brands and also spoken to some people. Glenn McCrory who I play is friends with Tyson Fury. I want to approach him and the wider boxing community to come onboard for a Uk tour and get them to the Newcastle shows. You, as a sponsor for this will be retained in any future run.

Investment

Looking for Circa £20,000 overall but definitely £10,000 to fund the show with the Theatre Royal and get things moving.

Other Info

There will be lots of work outside of the play for you to be part of as sponsor. I also have plenty more info about the play including some brilliant reviews and quotes from previous shows. All social media will be updated.
