Bournemouth Writing Festival is in need of sponsorship as they continue to support and inspire writers by providing workshops and activities.

The Bournemouth Writing Festival inspires writers to write, regardless of where they are on their writing journey. A variety of “how-to” talks, panels, workshops, activities and networking events with writing professionals enables purpose, inspiration and collaboration to write in safe spaces.

We support writers from all backgrounds to get writing, improve, share their work, be valued and connect with like-minded writers (after all, writing is a lonely business!). This is achieved through multiple, affordable access points of engagement and opportunities to access high-quality professionals and organisations over a 3-day festival.

The programme is split into 3 areas: a formal programme of talks and workshops that delves into the “how-to” elements of writing (whether plot, querying or editing); activities and networking to foster collaboration and inspiration (such as Writing on the Beach); and children’s activities to develop their creativity. We demonstrate through our programming and ongoing community that Bournemouth is an inspirational, inclusive, creative and safe place for any writer to flourish.

In our inaugural festival, a quarter of attendees lived outside of Dorset, we sold nearly 2k tickets from writers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. 50% of attendees were under 50 years of age, with a skew towards females. We achieved over 20 press pieces, including BBC Radio Solent, and we partnered with AFC Bournemouth for our schools’ writing competition and Beano Comics for our kids’ writing workshops.

A full summary of what we did at the 2023 festival is available on our website, under the Sponsorship / Advertising heading.

Target Audience

Our audience have something to say - whether a memoir, a fantasy or a romance. They invest their time and money in improving and progressing their passion and skills - to ultimate get their thoughts and ideas out into the world. Our target market skews female (75%) but we have a broad church in terms of age. 50% are under 50, and we are working much closer on the 2024 festival with the two universities, 17 language schools and college within Bournemouth Town Centre. As you can see from the photos from our summary (on the sponsor/advertising page), there is a real mix of ages. In our inaugural festival, 26% of attendees lived outside of Dorset, showing the high demand for this kind of "how-to" festival across the country.

Key Dates and Timings

The festival is on 26, 27 and 28 April 2024. Sponsorship of the competitions will start in January at their launch until the festival ends.

Specific Opportunity Details

We currently have three specific opportunities:

1) Creative Writing Competition for Schools and Home-Educated Children

Sponsorship of the writing competition we curate for primary schools, secondary schools and home-educated children within Dorset. Last year, we partnered with AFC Bournemouth to create a football-themed competition, where the winners each received fabulous AFCB prizes - including meeting the women's team! This year, our theme is nature and sustainability. We are working with Dorset Goes Wild and Hengistbury Writers' Group to expand our competition to involve even more children to write. With this sponsorship, we aim to reach all 274 schools within BCP and Dorset and 47,000 families.

As part of the sponsorship to enable more kids to write, you'll receive exclusivity, logo and branding on all materials (including on collateral going into schools) plus exposure at the launch and winners event.

2) Writing Competition

Sponsorship of the Bournemouth Writing Festival writing competition, which allows us to offer free entry for disadvantaged or low-income writers. As well as a full page in the Festival Programme, you'll also get a full page in the resulting anthology, social media presence with everything to do with the competition, including
*Branding/involvement of your choice in all marketing
*Exposure/sampling at our launch event on Thursday 25th January,
*‘Winners event’ on Sunday 28th April.
